National Asbestos Awareness Week

It has been a busy National Asbestos Awareness Week for EDP Consultants, and our Managing Director, John Batty, in particular.

Running annually in the last week of November, Asbestos Awareness Week aims to maintain and improve public awareness regarding the dangers of asbestos in our environment.

With this year’s campaign focusing on homes constructed pre-1990, John has featured on Channel 7 news and ABC radio discussing the unique risks for homes featuring asbestos building materials, in the context of the imminent bushfire season. De-risking homes can help minimise health risks and avoid potential expensive clean-ups related to asbestos ‘splatter’ and fibre-spread, which are caused by the catastrophic effects of fire.

He has also weighed in on some media outlets with some measured advice around actual risks, to counter hysteria around the recalled asbestos-impacted coloured sand.

Finally, John spoke about the delicate balance of managing asbestos in historic structures at the Asbestos and Hazardous Materials Consultants Association / Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists Awareness Week Industry Webinar.

A busy week indeed but an important topic which EDP will continue to promote and support through John Batty and our specialist team of Occupational Hygienists, Licenced Asbestos Assessors and laboratory technicians.
