EDP Consultants establishes new office in New South Wales
The new Newcastle office will provide expertise in contaminated land management and remediation, resource recovery, waste management, occupational hygiene and hazardous materials assessment, supporting growth and expansion in Defence, Local Government, Development, Transport and Ports.
EDP Consultants, an RSK Company providing health and safety, property compliance and environmental services, announces a new office opening in New South Wales, Australia. The Newcastle (Kotara) office, EDP’s third base in Australia, will be staffed with expertise in contaminated land management and remediation, resource recovery, waste management, occupational hygiene and hazardous materials assessment, supporting the company’s rapid growth and a strong pipeline of work heading into 2023, particularly in Defence, Local Government, Development, Transport and Ports. The opening was officiated by Sarah Mogford, Director, Environment and Planning Division, RSK Group, Mark Haydock, Managing Director, RSK Australia and John Batty, Managing Director, EDP Consultants.
Since 2019, EDP Consultants has been active in the Hunter region. The company has been working closely with BGIS, a global integrated facilities management provider, and Duratec, a steel and concrete structure protection and remediation specialist, providing asbestos, hazardous materials, contaminated land and environmental management and remediation support within Defence bases in Williamtown, Singleton and the greater Northern NSW Region.
“EDP Consultants was the first company to join RSK Australia when the latter was established in 2021 and has played an important role in spearheading our growth plans in Australia. The opening of EDP Consultants’ office in Newcastle will provide much-needed expertise, especially in the Hunter Region, and will support RSK Australia’s plan to increase our presence in the country by eight-fold,” said Mark Haydock, Managing Director RSK Australia.
“Since our humble beginnings in 2019, EDP Consultants has always endeavoured to align itself with the needs of its clients by providing a trusted adviser solution, while also providing a place where high performing consultants can grow and learn. This has allowed the business to grow from strength to strength. The establishment of an office in Newcastle creates a new chapter in the life of EDP that will allow our talented staff to better service our clients in the Hunter Region and build on the success that has been laid with the establishment of our Sydney and Brisbane Operations. Our dream is to provide a national service and this takes us a further step towards realising the dream of providing tailored solutions to our clients through learning and innovation,” said John Batty, Managing Director of EDP Consultants.
EDP Consultants will embark on a project to landfill gas risk assessment for the Summerhill Waste Management Centre, supporting the Centre’s sustainable waste strategy and plans, and transformation into a regional recovery hub. EDP has also contributed significantly to several key projects in the region, including providing concept design for a landfill in the Upper Hunter region, infrastructure developments for aboriginal communities near Walgett, and supporting infrastructure projects in Dubbo.
EDP will rely on the 50 years of combined experience provided by Mark Challoner (Certified Environmental Practitioner: Site Contamination Specialist) with over twenty five years of environmental assessment of waste management facilities and contaminated land assessments; Pablo Garces (Senior Environmental Engineer) with extensive experience in the resource recovery and waste management sector; and Andrew Pittaway (Senior Occupational Hygienist) with significant experience in the occupational hygiene and hazardous materials (including asbestos, lead and mould) assessment field.
“The acquisition of EDP Consultants in 2021 was a crucial milestone in developing the RSK Group in Australia. It is great to see the team drumming momentum for the growth of RSK Australia. As EDP Consultants expand their presence with a new office and headcount, it will foster more opportunities and enhance our market position in the compliance and environmental sectors. I look forward to greater collaboration between EDP Consultants and other companies within RSK Australia as we deliver sustainable solutions for businesses and industries,” said Sarah Mogford, Director, Environment and Planning Division, RSK Group.
EDP Consultants also has offices in Sydney and Brisbane.
